The complex is housed in a superb facility, erected in the 19th Century on what was the remains of the San Gil's convent which dates from the 17th Century. Cuisine within the restaurant is Castillian Spanish and French Basque and the cafe and restaurant have become one of the most popular Madrid venues in which to enjoy excellent food in wonderful surrounds.

The wine list offers everything which would be expected from such a top restaurant complex and additionally a full range of coffees such as Irish, Russian, Viennese, and Jamaican options are available. Private dining is available for a variety of purposes in Cafe De Oriente, such as business events, celebrations and parties. Two venues are offered for private dining, Abuella, an elegant dining room which can host up to 18 persons and San Gil, a wonderful cellar area which can cater for up to 72 persons. Banquet menus, Cocktail menus and Party Menus are available to delight patrons and enhance any event.
The restaurant at Cafe De Oriente is open each day 1.00pm to 4.00 pm for lunch and 9.00pm to midnight for dinner. The cafe and bistro are open all day from 8.30am till 1.30 am and till 2.30 am on Fridays and Saturdays. Reservations for the cafe are not required but for the restaurant are highly recommended.
